BABY NAMES

Are you about to become a new parent with a brand new baby and in the process of picking the perfect name? There are so many beautiful names out there now it is hard to narrow it down to just the right one. Australia's top baby names of the year have just been revealed and royals, celebrities and one of my all time favourites botanicals have all had an influence.

Australia's top baby names of the year

Royal fever - while they seem to be breaking the rules on some things, they are sticklers for tradition when it comes to naming their babies! Charlotte came in at #1 for girls and William #2 for boys. George, Louis, Henry, Edward, Charles, Elizabeth, Zara and Victoria all made the top 100.

Celebrities have a big effect on how we name our babies. Unusual names that celebrities seem to seek out are becoming far less unusual as we hear them more and more.

Harper (Beckham), Luna (Chrissy Teigen & John Legend's daughter), Penelope (daughter of Kourtney Kardashian), Evie (daughter of Carrie Bickmore), Billie (daughter of Rebecca and Chris Judd), Hunter (sons of both Roxy Jacenko and Colette Dinnigan), Willow (daughters of both Pink and Will Smith.

Botanicals are big but only for girls. Ivy, Lily, Willow, Violet, Poppy, Jasmine, Rose, Daisy and Olive all make the list.

Drew Barrymore and Isla Fisher both chose the strong and earthy Olive for their daughters. Jamie and Jools Oliver named three daughters after flowers - Poppy, Daisy and Petal and Johnny Depp has Lily-Rose!

Happy name hunting!
